Just watched a few days ago on ARTE this great movie called Plastic City / Dangkou by Yu Lik-wai (2008)
Its a great movie with good actors and shot strong visual style, which I liked.
.So if you liked City of god or the visual style of 300 .
The movie plays in the asian community in Sao Paulo in Brasil, but gladly is not just another favela guns and drugs copycat of the great City of God, though it involved gang fights, guns, and sex but drugs dont .
I like especially the shamanistic sequences at the beginning and end, and that this movie lefts one with open questions .
The trailer above shoud give you some idea. More infos on IMDB!
A 50 seconds sequence (1400 frames) , the showdown of the movie “Run Lola Run” is processed with Max/jitter so you can see alll 1400 frames in a grid of 1400 rectangles displayed on a giant screen , allowing one to virtually see any and all of the 1400 frames at same time.Think the freeframe video effect “split video” but in really big. This gives a quite new persepective on tghe movie and the moviel loop becomes a giant video sculpture.
Watch the video above to see what I mean.
Which is really a new perspective on a movie.
A interesting concept I’d like to see live and I like this to become a permanent installtion somewhere and used with different other movie sequences. There are a few parts of movies which would be at least as suitable as Lola Run.
